Full frame and 24.2 MP CMOS sensor with backlit design
The 35 mm full frame CMOS Exmor RTM image sensor offers a 24.2 megapixel resolution, backlighting and chip lens design without spaces to give an excellent sensitivity and dynamic range. Thanks to the copper threads and the initial large-scale integration you get a twice-high data reading speed.
Video 4K HDR, clarity, naturality and reality
The full and high-resolution 4K videos with full pixel reading and without grouping pixels that condenses approximately 2.4 times the amount of data required for 4K videos (QFHD: 3.840 x 2.160) provides a smaller moiré and lower amount of cut edges. Advanced image processing allows you to record 4K full frame videos with a surprising image quality in the ISO range from mid to high. This way you can make the most of the unique potential of the 4K video format in each capture. And if necessary, you can select the Super 35 mm mode instead of the frame mode.
Capture up to 10 fps with AF/AE tracking
Thanks to new improvements in the shutter loading unit and imaging processing system, the Sony A7 III is able to continuously shoot up to 10 fps with AF/AE tracking (up to 8 fps with a minimum delay in Live View in continuous mode), which allows the capture in a comfortable and stable way even in very dynamic subjects. Up to 177 JPEG images (standard) of full resolution, 89 RAW images compressed or 40 RAW images without compressing, in a single continuous burst. An electronic shutter allows silent and vibration-free taking in delicate situations and wildlife in which even the slightest noise can mean losing an ideal catch.
Ultimate generation image processing system
The combination of the state-of-the-art image processing system together with the innovative sensor achieves an improvement of up to 1.5 steps in image quality. The extensive range of ISO sensitivity up to ISO 51200 is the standard, and a dynamic range of up to 15 steps is achieved in low sensitivity settings. The reproduction of improved details and the Noise Cancelling function in certain areas are joined to suppress noise and maintain a high resolution in general. Color reproduction has also improved, specifically in scenes of nature and skin. Sony A7 III also supports 14-bit RAW output included in silent or continuous shooting.
Wider, faster and more regular automatic focus performance
Both the improved image processing system and the autofocus algorithms optimized for the Sony A7 III camera make it improve the speed, accuracy and tracking performance of the autofocus. The automatic approach with phase detection of 693 points along with the automatic approach with contrast detection of 425 points provide extensive high-density coverage. The autofocus speed up to twice as much and the most accurate automatic approach tracking performance make it easy for you to capture and maintain the focus on fast moving subjects when they unpredictablely move. The Sony Alpha 7 III to a brightness up to EV-3 also automatically focuses
Goals with type A mount also with automatic focus and detection of phases in focal plane
The automatic phase detection approach responds even when a target with a A mount is placed on the Sony A7 III using a LA-EA3 adapter. The 693-point Automatic Focusing System provides high coverage, rapid response and high follow-up performance.
New AF-ON button and multiselector on Sony Alpha 7 III
With the new AF-ON button you can already focus better on the exact trigger point of the shutter and capture the moment immediately, as the automatic focus is activated without pressing the shutter button to half. A multiselector makes it easy to change the focus point quickly and efficiently. You can also select and change the focus point intuitively, not to lose the real opportunities to capture moving subjects.
Eye AF, the secret for unforgettable portraits
Sony's exclusive Eye AF technology already supports AF-C mode with superior precision that considerably improves the capture of portraits, in addition to a higher AF speed that facilitates the capture of portraits of moving subjects, even if they do not look at the camera, or look down or if they are backlit with the face in partial darkness. The Sony A7 III supports Eye AF for A-type mounting objectives with an adapter.
Rapidity and full automatic focus comfort
The sensitivity of the autofocus for photos is adjustable in five steps for moving subjects outside the focus area. Auto-focus points and zones remain the same or change when varying between vertical and horizontal orientations, depending on the firing place. In the Sony Alpha 7 III automatic focus area log allows the most frequently used focus point settings to be memorized and assigned to buttons that can be customized to quickly and comfortably recover them with a single touch when needed.

Improved use capacity in burst mode
The images captured in continuous shooting can be grouped and in turn, these groups can be removed or protected through a rapid operation. Also, with a higher continuous shooting capacity compatible with UHS-II supports, the camera considerably optimizes data recording operation on memory cards. While data writing is ongoing, the Fn button and the menu button can be executed to modify the settings just after the continuous shooting.
Anti-parking mode
Fluorescent and artificial light blinking is automatically located and the shutter drive is synced to reduce its effect on photos. Thus the exposure and color anomalies are suppressed at the top and bottom of the images captured with a high shutter speed, in addition to the inconsistencies between continuous shootings, to facilitate the taking of indoor images more safely.
Idonea for a wide range of production needs 4K HDR
Suitable for a wide variety of production needs of HDR films, the Sony A7 III provides gamma curves both S-Log3 and S-Log2, which provides great flexibility in accurate image adjustment according to user preferences by using post-production colour gradation. In addition, a new HLG image profile ( Hybrid Log Gama) provides a quick HDR workflow. Although colour gradation is not essential to enjoy a reproduction at the time of high quality, reliable images without blocked shadows or burnt lights on TVs compatible with HDR (HLG).
Video recording with improved fast hybrid autofocus
The competent combination of automatic focus with phase detection in focal plane and automatic focus with contrast detection is fixed with precision included in the fast moving subjects and then performs a fluid tracking during the recording of videos. The automatic focus coverage for videos extends to an area as extensive as the autofocus coverage for photographs, so once the autofocus system crashes into the subject of a video, the camera performs continuous monitoring in a stable and secure way. The three AF driver speed settings provide you with the freedom to use slow-focus effects on video scene recordings.
New menu interface and customization
My menu makes it easy to register and organize up to 30 menu items according to the use frequency order to recover them at the moment and the items you do not use can be removed if necessary. You can create a custom menu adapted to the needs of specific shots. For a simpler search the main menus of Sony A7 III have been reorganized using group names and page numbers on the top of the screens.
Visor with high resolution XGA OLED Tru-FinderTM and high contrast
By providing high resolution and contrast, in addition to an extraordinary gradation and color reproduction, benefits of OLED viewers, this OLED Tru-Finder viewer 2.359.000 points faithfully reproduces sharp images throughout the screen. The enlargement is more or less 0.78x (see field of 38.5° approx.). The ZEISS T* coating significantly reduces the uncomfortable reflections in eye optics. The start is almost 40% faster than with the Sony A7 II when the camera is off. In addition, the display mode can be set in “High” (Alta) to provide more accurate and natural details, benefiting from the data reading of the 24.2 effective megapixel sensor.
Focus on the 3''' touch and folding LCD display
The 3.0 LCD display with 922,000 points provides tactile use and bright, sharp and accurate display even on the outside. Use the tactile approach to target the moment a point that you touch on the touch screen, and the touch pad to drag the focus frame with the finger on the LCD screen while monitoring the capture through the viewer. For camera management and flexible and comfortable shot monitoring, you can tilt the LCD screen up to 107° or down to 41°.
USB 3.1 USB-C type
Quickly review the images on a PC and continue to capture without delay thanks to the CTM USB port compatible with USB 3.1 Gen 1 that allows remote transfer to high-speed PC from large RAW data files. In addition, the configuration to transfer only JPEG images to PC allows you to check images via PC even faster after continuous shooting, as the camera does not have to send large RAW data volume.
Location information via Bluetooth®
The camera can be linked to the Imaging Edge Mobile app, installed on a compatible mobile phone or tablet, to capture the location data, record them in the images and correct the date or time of the camera as well as the location setting.
5-axis Image Stabilizer
This complete system compensates for the five types of vibration of the camera that can cause blurry in the shots: longitudinal/lateral vibration by capturing longer focal distances; X/Y vibration in top-level shots (including macro); and lab vibration by capturing night images and recording videos. This system achieves a 5-step shutdown speed faster, so the Sony A7 III can make the most of its high-quality image capacity and Live View image performance. In addition, it operates with objectives with type A mount with the mount adapter, in addition to objectives with type E mount.
