Exmor RSTM Image Sensor Full-frame stacked 24.6 MP newly developed with global shutter
The ?9 III has a full-frame image sensor with a revolutionary global shutter with approximately 24.6 million effective pixels, a stacked CMOS architecture and a comprehensive memory, offering high resolution and overwhelming speed. He is capable of capturing fast moving subjects without distortion. In addition, the stacked structure and advanced A/D conversion of the sensor allow high-speed processing that offers minimal delay. In addition, with the BIONZ XRTM advanced processing engine, the ?9 III can capture continuous bursts to up to 120 fps while maintaining all the action focused thanks to a great AI, an automatic approach with wide phase detection and a great recognition of subjects.
BIONZ XR Image Processor
With a processing power up to eight times higher than in previous versions, the BIONZ XR image processor minimizes latency and increases processing power to a large extent, which produces images with a high color gradation, realistic color reproduction and low noise level. You can process the high volume of data generated in real time by the new Exmor RS image sensor, even while continuous bursts are made up to 120 fps, and you can capture 14-bit high-quality RAW images in all photo capture modes.
Capture without black spaces
Do not miss a moment thanks to the viewer without black spaces, which is not darkened even during continuous catches at high speed. This allows you to capture all the action fluidly, and is especially useful for capturing fast moving subjects like athletes, or for portraits, when even the shortest facial expression can make the difference between a normal shot and a spectacular one.
Continuous Shooting Speed Boost
Continuous Shooting Speed Boost temporarily increases capture speed while performing bursts, allowing the user to raise the image rate to 120 fps, for example, when the key moment is approaching. It is better to use it by capturing sports and other frenetic activities in which you can predict about the time of the desired action.
Capture essential moments with innovative high-speed burst compatibility
Do not miss any important event with the Pre-Capture, which allows you to capture moments that occurred before the shutter was shot. The data is temporarily stored (up to 120 images per second) while the shutter button is pressed up to half, and can be captured up to 1 second before the shutter is pressed completely. This facilitates the capture of fleeting moments, such as bird images lifting the flight, even if the shutter is activated a little late.
Ultra-fast shutter speed of 1/80,00013 seconds
It captures all the trepidating action in sporting events and much more. The global shutter sensor allows a maximum ultra-fast shutter speed of 1/800,000 seconds for photographs, which makes it possible to capture even a bullet coming out of a rifle cannon in a shooting competition, for example.
Quick, accurate and comprehensive approach and monitoring
The ?9 III includes a fast hybrid autofocus system that combines the tracking performance and speed of the autofocus with phase detection with the precision of the autofocus with contrast detection, which blocks and continues to reliably the subjects that move quickly or erraticly. It now has 759 phase detection points in an automatic focus system with phase detection and high-density focal plane covering approximately 95.6 % of the image area.
Reliable recognition of more subjects
The AI processing unit supports the following optimized recognition: Human, Animal, Ave, Insect, Car/Tren and Avion. In the Car/Tren category, you can now recognize helmets, such as those carried by racing drivers. Animal recognition recognizes the eyes of some large herbivores and small animals, in addition to the eyes, heads and bodies of dogs, cats and similar. Bird recognition has also been updated and more easily identifies eyes of different types of birds and recognizes their bodies. In addition, the new Animal/Ave adjustment eliminates the need to change from one to another to capture animals or birds.
Estimate of human posture with a skeleton-inspired model
Thanks to the innovative AI processing unit, ?9 III can use data in the form of the subject to recognize the movement accurately. The estimation technology of the human pose recognizes the eyes and position of the body and head with great precision. This allows blocking a subject that looks across or whose face is covered and followed. A remote human subject who occupies only a small part of the frame (even smaller than in previous iterations of AF recognition in real time) can be recognized if the subject is near the focus area when the shutter is pressed up to half while being captured with continuous AF. This can accelerate the approach in an athlete who is approaching from afar in an athletic or ski test, for example.
RAW composite reduces noise
RAW composite covers several images (4, 8, 16 or 32, can be selected) that can then be combined with the Imaging Edge DesktopTM app software for Sony computer to create full resolution images with very little noise. This makes it easy to capture wild animals at high shutter speeds with little light, with a very high image quality and little noise, even in high ISO settings. In addition, when shooting at low levels of sensitivity, ?9 III can take advantage of the vibration of the capture without tripod and use Composite RAW to create images with less false colors and cut edges.
Advanced 5-axis optical image stabilization
Capture without tripod with confidence. The ?9 III has a high-precision image stabilization unit, advanced gyroscopes and optimized stabilization algorithms to detect and correct the vibration of the camera, and offers an 8-step stabilization. It is compatible with objectives with integrated image stabilization and improves the communication between the body and the objectives for effective control in capturing without blurry at remote lens focal distances.
Up to 120 AF/AE tracking calculations per second
Let the camera handle: the high reading speed of the new image sensor allows the ?9 III to perform up to 120 AF/AE tracking calculations per second, the double of its predecessor. The AF tracks the complex movements of the subject and predicts sudden movements more accurately than ever, while the AE responds easily to sudden variations in brightness. ?9 III continues to follow even during continuous capture, which also contributes to greater accuracy.
