It has a full frame CMOS Exmor RS BSI sensor of 50.1MP again design and BIONZ XR processing engine.
The combination of efficient sensor design stacked with optimized processing means that a1 is able to continuously shoot 30 fps to full resolution, 8K 30p video recording and 4K 120p 10-bit, and still offers a versatile sensitivity of up to ISO 102400 for low light shots. The sensor design includes a fast 759 point hybrid AF system, which provides advanced subject tracking and real-time AF in humans and animals.

50.1 megapixels up to 30 fps
The #1 offers a great combination of high resolution and high speed. The ultra-fast reading of the 50.1 MP sensor allows bursts of up to 30 fps * with AF/AE tracking through the electronic shutter. Ideal for sports or any situation where the action takes place in an instant.
*Continuous capture mode "Hi+", shutting speeds of 1/125 s or less. With shutting speeds of 1/250 s or less in the AF-C mode, the maximum continuous image frequency depends on the capture mode and the target used.

No black spaces for uninterrupted vision
The uninterrupted and non-black view of the subject allows to react quickly and smoothly. The electronic viewer has been updated to minimize latency during continuous capture.

120 AF/AE tracking calculations per s
The rapid reading of the sensor performs 120 AF/AE calculations per second, even to 30 fps bursts, for a great precision with moving subjects. AE latency below 0.0033 s.

Silent and vibrationless shutter
The silent electronic shutter4 offers better opportunities to photograph sports and other subjects where noise is not an option. Vibrationless operation contributes to high image quality.

Antidistortion shocker
The rapid reading of the sensor minimizes distortion in the photos using the electronic shutter. The BIONZ XRTM engine and the large buffer achieve a distortion of 1.5 times less than ?9 II.

Electronic and mechanical shutters without blinking
Another exclusive novelty: electronic and mechanical shutters without blinking. Capture without blinking in fluorescent or artificial light conditions with all the advantages of an electronic shutter.

Exmor RSTM CMOS stacked, full frame, 50.1 MP, integral memory
The stacked architecture of this full frame backlit sensor and 50.1 MP contributes to high resolution and speed. Independent pixel and circuit layers and A/D conversion involve faster processing.
